Hi! I really want to get into real estate investing but have no prior knowledge. I am thinking about getting my real estate license in NYC to get to know the ins and outs of buying houses and then hopefully networking with individuals who are in REI already
is there an easier way to learn real estate investing?
also would love to connect with people who are already doing this

Online: bigger pockets
Getting a license would be a waste of time unless you actually plan to be a RE agent.

You don’t need a real estate license to be a real estate investor… especially in a state like New York.

Read some books, learn how to invest remotely, and save up money to invest while you learn how to be successful.

like

Bigger Pockets is definitely your starting point. They have books and podcasts that are all hugely valuable!

I also highly suggest “InvestWithAce” on Instagram. He has tons and tons of FREE long form video content about how to find, buy, and manage out of state rentals.

This is not a great time to start this tbh unless you want to make cash offers.

so i just want to be prepped for when the market is better

The question I would ask first is why? Why investing and why a real estate license? If you want to learn start by understanding basic terminology and free classes online.

Do you want to be a realtor? If not then idk why you would get a license.

If you want to get into investing then read some articles to get a foundation. Download dealcheck or something similar to run the numbers for you and then invest in some real estate.

thank you for your thoughts!!

It’s interesting to see several articles and surveys emerging saying the initial bump in productivity from mass remote working has started to come down or even go negative as the novelty wears off and people start to get worn down from longer hours, the stresses of having kids at home full time, burn out from increased workloads, stress from the pandemic, etc. Curious to here people’s thoughts, do you think you’re less productive now than back around the April timeframe?

I'm early in my career, managed to save $30K to invest, and want to get my hands dirty with a rental property without too much risk (e.g. no HML/flipping). It sounds like that's a tall order in the NY/CT area given the prices, not to mention whether I'd be able to get a mortgage on anything below $100K, but I figure I'll give it a shot anyway. Any advice on what you might do in my position? Am I being crazy with this idea?
