Hi! I work for an Interior Designer in DC, it is just the two of us in the company. On paper, I’m an independent contractor, but in reality they are my boss. Recently, they said they wanted a conversation about me being salaried employee and it’ll come with an increase in pay. I currently make 48k. I don’t have a job description. I just do as I’m told, I don’t go above and beyond, because they prefer the work a certain way. Suggestions navigating, even if it’s just practice in negotiating?

Sounds like you’ll have to take a full lead to avoid being played. Based on what you do and what you believe you do google similar JDs on the market and present one with a salary range. Be sure to note location if you’re not remote, YOE, point out which qualifications you have based on the JD KSAs and the fact that you already know the culture and how things work to save than 3-6 months bringing in someone new.

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. These conversations can be challenging, especially when it is just me.

I have been in my current job for 1 year now as a booking coordinator for a logistics company. When I started I had no idea of what my workload would be, now I noticed that my coworkers took the opportunity to pass most of their job to me. I’m burned out, can barely take break and end my days totally drained and exhausted, also the same people is harassing me with questions like: “why are you working that slow?” Or the “quality of your job is questionable because…..” continue in comments

Under no circumstances disclose how much you make or what you want to make.

I discuss & other do’s and dont’s on IG.

So I accepted an offer back in mid March but I didn’t negotiate it up and now I’m regretting it, because apparently you’re supposed to. If not, how do I go about it?

Had my annual review Friday (first year with the company). Boss awarded a 3% raise though she said my review was “90% positive.” Worth adding I got a 3% sign on bonus last year, so I’m basically at 0% raise. Nobody under me has gotten less than a 7% raise in the past year. Considering promotions + counter offers as well, it goes as high as 25%. I don’t feel a 3% raise matches a “90% positive” review and plan to bring up the cognitive dissonance I’m feeling. Any other tips or advice to add?

Not sure if this matters but I have a total of 14YOE with 5 of them in a BA, Sr. BA roles. Started off as a software engineer.

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
