Book recommendation for career switchers - Herminia Ibarra's "Working Identity"

I had a mentor recommend it to me and I've been paying it forward ever since. If you find it insightful pass it on.

Happy to chat government, startup, or cybersecurity worlds if anyone has questions there (quite contrasting I know).

Is there a general expectation that a Partner has an MBA?

I doubt it's required at most firms but I'm a pretty senior staff and when I speak with Partners, they seem to speak with an MBA level of business knowledge which extends past their technical skillset.

I realize that's what makes them good Partners but it makes me wonder if I realistically need to get an MBA to keep growing and hit Partner.

Additional Posts in Non-Traditional Career Pivots

Anyone pivoted from consulting into the aerospace/defense sector as an engineer?

Hi, I'm looking for a mentor so I can pivot from e&i to software and devops. I love figuring out how things work. To me it is all a big mysterious puzzle to figure out and make work. I love seeing the pieces click together and suddenly begin doing something productive.

I'm currently learning python for self directed tasks and am working on skills related to OOP and software design patterns as well as studying to renew my CCNP Collaboration and working towards a CCNA DevNet.

Hello, I have left consulting career to build a portfolio of careers. I am a founder of Life Startup, we do future workforce and employee wellbeing as well as work with individuals helping them design their next chapter in life. I'm also a yoga teacher and an artist.

I've never been more fulfilled in my life and my purpose is to share this with as many unfulfilled and potentially burnt out consultants and professionals out there.

If you are looking for a change, DM me, I'll be happy to chat!

Hi. Lawyer of around 8 years (both big law and inhouse experience). Finally decided to accept the sunk costs as I have never been happy with my job.

After doing some serious soul searching, I want to pivot into SWE/web development. Preferably full stack. Only on point experience is having built 3 personal websites in Wordpress = nothing but something that shows my passion?

Going to try for the bootcamp path. But, would love to speak to some SWEs. I think 70% of my network is lawyers.

Didn't end up making the cut in Strategy consulting case interviews. Would really like to do strategy / S&O some day. I love using data to inform decision-making.

Wondering if it would make sense to continue consulting in implementation then try to pivot again in the future or at another level - or drop consulting & try to get a strategy job at a startup or maybe do something else at a larger company and try to pivot internally.

Background is tech + MBA. Any insight appreciated!

I have been working in management at an industry job for 10+ years and I would like to pivot to consulting. Are there any certifications that I should pursue before interviewing? Any other advice is welcome as well.
