If you’re interested in local government policy, I would research the Local Government Management Fellowship. It is a career-development opportunity designed to attract recent MPA/MPP graduates and fellows work for a City or County in a management-track local government position. It’s how I got my big break in government.

Thanks so much for this information! I will look into it. I am interested in local, state and federal policies. Thanks again!

Bumping your post because I’ve also been contemplating making a similar switch.

Ok great . I was told Think tanks are the best way to get into Public Policy. Hoping to get into one after graduation.

You still have 10 days left to start volunteering with someone who could get elected and need good people around them to help make policy.

Great idea. Thanks!

Thinking about buying a 2 bed condo in nj (journal square).. but the maintenance fee of the condo is $1200/month and then the taxes as well. Total price aroubd 500k to 600k. Have enough for 20+% down payment but feel like maintenance fee and tax is way too high but also not sure if I can buy a house and maintain since this is my first time purchase.. any recommendation?

Is there a ‘quiet period’ before an offer comes? My recruiter hasn’t gotten back to me in awhile and I have been sending her check in emails. Definitely a little scared now after having two super amazing interviews.

Hi TCS fishes,

I'm currently serving notice period in tcs. I'm thinking of using the 2 flexi leaves on 14th and 15th April and taking sick leaves on 11, 12 and 13 April. Thus, I'll also include the 2 weekends and get 2+5+2=9 days continuous off. Can this be an issue?

Hi! Anybody knows of federal agencies hiring that are offering fulltime telework/remote?
I currently work for an agency based in DC and my boss is forcing us to come back into the office fulltime after we’ve been remote for nearly two years. Majority of my coworkers have already left for the private sector but I’d like to remain in the public.

Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. However I noticed there was an internal candidate who has been there for few years and interviewed that’s a veteran. I feel my chances just sank and want to gauge thoughts.

I am a PIO at a state agency and I’ve been thinking about applying to the FEMA reservist. Does anyone have experience with doing this while also being employed for a state agency? Is that a normal route to take or is there another way to gain more experience with disaster/crisis communications?

Any insight appreciated!

Why have unions become so powerless in recent years? A decade ago, the collective bargaining units would get wage increases that matched or exceeded inflationary growth. Now we are lucky to see any positive integer offered.

Realistically, if they are merely securing my job for $100/month they are not providing value! I can protect my own job, AND pay for a decent retirement with that money saved.

I’ve been a fed for 13 years within DoD and am in my early 40’s. Not sure when a promotion is on the horizon for me as I’m a top performer.

What are thoughts of leaving the fed for a company like Deloitte?

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.

Hi there, I work for the U.S. Government. My husband is in the private sector and his job is sending him on a temporary detail for 2 years, overseas.
Does anyone know if the government allows remote work overseas? Or does anyone have a similar experience?

Does anyone have any tips on how to crossover to governmental affairs? I love government work, but I would like to try it from a different perspective.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

I currently work in Private (GA) Aviation & have for some time (about 12 years) I’m currently making the switch to the Department of Aviation and am unsure if I should ditch my current job (in private) and go full force with the DOA & embrace this new opportunity educationally and gather as much experience as I can or keep both jobs even though I’d be working 80hr weeks.. I love the private world but am really ready to move up. I don’t know what I should do. Any suggestions?
