Hmm... what benefits/perks does everyone care the most about? Particularly, what would get everyone excited about RTO? I'm taking a little informal survey

Gonna level with you, I don't think any perk will get people "excited" about RTO. You can take steps to make it less miserable, but there's nothing that will make people thrilled about having to come back to the office. With that said, something like Summer Fridays might help, either allowing employees to WFH on Fridays during the summer or leave the office at noon.

The biggest thing: you need to make me feel like I'm not wasting my life away spending AT LEAST ten extra hours per week getting ready, commuting, etc

like

If I'm commuting 10 hours, and I feeling like I'm only adding a tiny bit more value, then I'm going to be upset.

Ask this, "How to motivate employees to work 10 hours of overtime every week, but like, the extra monotonous and unfulfilling kind?"

If it's not $$, it's gonna have to be something very substantial.

like

Trying to get people excited by RTO is going to be difficult. People who have been working remotely are just going to have a hard time giving that up. I always knew that some things about working in the office, like the way you can learn from each other, and just the general camaraderie, are things I'd always enjoyed. So when I had to go back it wasn't like it was the end of the world in my mind. But it is a pain to be commuting when I know, deep down, it doesn't have to be that way.

like

"How to get people excited about spending significantly more time toward work, and lots of additional little costs (gas, clothes, etc)?
...
Oh yeah, and of course we're not going to pay more for it.
So, like, what kind of snacks should we offer?"

like

WLB - permit to come/go as I need. Trust me to get my work done in a timely manner. Does it really matter if it’s done between 8-5pm? Hold me accountable to my performance.

Work remote is literally one of the best benefits you can offer.

like

I get it, but the unfortunate reality is that employers don't have to care. There are so many people looking for work that they can do whatever they want, within the confines of the law, and there is little that can be done about it.

People who are upset by RTO should be grateful to even have a job. There are a lot of people out there who are desperate for a steady paycheck. Try to keep them in mind when getting excited about RTO. It could be worse.

Bad take. “Poor decisions made my leadership? You should just be happy to have a job!”

The vast majority of return to office initiatives are posturing, and/or hoping to make people quit.

The reason people want to hold on to remote work is because it is objectively *better* in most cases. I get all my work done, as much as before, and I do it faster, and at less expense to myself.

I do not need a pizza party. I do not need to be “mentored.” I have a great working relationship with my team, and that’s enough.

Any objections from middle management just reek of insecurity or posturing.

I don’t consider RTO a benefit. But if you want to get people excited then I would say lead by example. Leaders should be in the office and available.

I feel like every leader needs to become a community manager and an event planner to implement RTO. It’s got to be like summer camp or rush week - plenty of food, snacks, happy hours and team building or social activities. Otherwise it’s no different to being at home which you’ve let employees do for about 4-5 years now.

If it’s a culture priority - live the culture.

Ew. I don't want 'bonus time' with coworkers. I want to finish work and go home.

I’d like some independent views please, on a financial decision my wife and I are about to make. We’re looking to buy our first/dream home and the property is valued at $1.25m. We have savings of $250k and our HHI is c$350k, with no debt. We will probably exhaust our savings on the deposit and closing costs. A $1m with mortgage at 6% with property taxes is c$8k/month. We net about $14k, we think it’s just about manageable, however keen to get your views please? More context in comment below.

Do you think women in the industry are paid lesser as compared to men.
Out of personal experience ,I can see that during compensation discussion HR person tries to convince a women candidate for a lesser package . Now this could also be the case where it is much easier to convince women to take up the job for lesser salary.
Whereas the male team member gets paid high (same YOE , same number of switch , similar prev CTC) though women are equally or more talented sometimes.

Luggage delay claim question

I used Chase explorer to buy tickets for my vacation and luggages were delayed for a month. Per chase term I am entitled $100 a day for 3 days. But the claim agency chase used has been asking for airlines response, which has not came (2month+ now). I am concerned insurance will use this as an excuse to never compensate. Is there a good way to handle this situation?

Do you all feel that the Health Insurance choice is actually all the same? The coverage is absolutely copy and paste for Bronze to Platinum and the deductible/copay is very similar.
I just don’t understand why we have the illusion of “choice” if the offer is the same and it is really bad (in our case).
Going from $61 per paycheck for 2.5k deductible 75% copay to $500+ per paycheck with 500 deductible 85% copay.
