This is not a hot take - it also doesn’t matter.

Warm take: a company's ethos (prioritizing privacy, security, and design) and mindful choices around what a product DOESNT do are more important than bells and whistles.

Well, yeah, Apple products are fashion items. They always have been. And the fetishizing of phones have reached an odd phase. Even a cheap Android now can do just about anything anyone would want on a phone. Most people just need them to read, text, and take a few photos. And even then the average use isn't adept enough to push a more or less generic phone to its limits.
'Fashion products' might be true for phones, and might be true for Macs today, but it was not always true. The company started with real performance and capability differences, esp for creative work.
Android people think about their OS, Apple people think about their device. That's the difference.
