Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

There are several approaches to finding contract work:
1. Update your linked in profile to reflect that you’re open for work and specify that you’re open to contract opportunities.
2. Networking. If you have a good network, reach out to people and share with them what you’re looking for. If someone is interested in bringing you on as a contractor, they can have you payrolled through one of their vendors that already have an MSA.
3. Work with a staffing firm that specializes in the data/analytics space. They have clients looking for contractors on a project basis or they can market you to their clients.
Option 1 will probably get you a ton of activity but a lot of it might be crap and not in line with what you’re looking for, yet still worth giving it a shot.

You likely need a specific niche to truly go solo. Most companies would rather work with another company with an MSA, standard rates, and the ability to cover more disciplines from one firm rather than having a ton of different MSAs and processes for smaller firms and solo people.
