Choose a popular restaurant in close proximity to either a police station, fire station, or hospital. A crowded restaurant will minimize your chances of a scene. Take note of all entrances and exits. Ideally, you will want to sit near the door should you need to escape. Once you sit down pour a tall glass of water and clear your forehead of perspiration. Order your meal. Insist on ordering theirs. Enjoy your meal. Pepper in some witty banter. Laugh and toss your hair around a bit. This should lighten the mood. Once the check arrives allow them to pay. Say thanks then quickly break the news. Finish the water you ordered and hastily make an exit. Walk briskly to your car. Laugh and toss your hair about so you can sneak a look or two to ensure you are not being followed. Drive until you reach your new job. You’ve done it!

I’ve accepted the counter offer a couple times, it’s totally fine. The “don’t accept counter offer” stuff is not really based in data.

Yeah all these people who say don’t accept a counter have just read too many LinkedIn articles, and are not basing it on reality.
