How did you relax while waiting for your background check results? I’m on pins and needles, mainly because the employer kept bringing it up during the process—so now I’m overthinking and panicking a bit. Would love to hear how others got through this stage without driving themselves crazy!

This is literally the only part about the interviewing process that doesn't cause me any stress lol. I've got a clean record and know nothing is going to come up that would put the offer in jeopardy. Interviews? Stressful. Waiting to hear if I'm going to move to the next round? Also stressful. Background check? 0 stress.

Oh there is nothing wrong with fully committing to the crazy. The waiting period is such a stressful time. Fill up your days as much as possible with exercise, friends, eating, learning how to paint figurines, whatever it takes haha.

Unless you have reason to worry about what the result should be, you might as well just stay calm and enjoy the delay as best you can. These things are always a cause for anxiety, but that's mainly because they can seem to take forever. I remember waiting for one once and feeling anxious and then of course it amounted to nothing and I was wondering what I was so worried about.

One of my government jobs took 8 weeks to do the back-grounding. Actually, the first one was only about 3 weeks, they said I was an easy case: no debts, car loans, house paid for. I got lucky on that one, but the other took 2 mos. Just sit back and relax a bit and don't stress about it. If there were any red flags, you probably would have heard about it by now. Good luck to you.

Additional Posts in Paralegals

What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

(1/2) I started a new job less than a month ago at a large firm with a significant pay increase. I work remotely- which is a special arrangement. They paid for my travel to their headquarters for in-person training. After interacting with my manager and some of the attorneys, I feel like I made a mistake. Manager is demeaning and rude. A bunch of the attorneys dropped not so subtle hints that people who work from home are causing all kinds of problems. I don’t know what to do.

Hi all, anyone familiar with Skadden in DC? Looking for any insight!

Hey, does anyone work for Jacobowitz Newman Tversky? Would love to know more about the office and culture .

I am prior military and went to law school. I had a family to take care of while I was a student, hence I went as fast as possible to get to a paycheck, graduating in 2 years, and bypassing the standard summer clerkships. How could I get some experience strictly remote? I am w-2 working as an accountant in healthcare, have passed the bar and am working on my CPA license (studying starts at 3 am, then work FT). I would like to eventually hang a shingle as a tax lawyer, but need experience. TIA!

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise

I currently work at an international law firm (4 years) and recently accepted an offer to go in house. The main attorney I support did not take the news well and was very angry with me. I feel awful and beaten down as I don’t want to upset anyone but the new role is fully remote and a nice pay bump. Looking for words of encouragement that I did the right thing. I feel awful 😞

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.
