Dude. Price deliverables. If they want all that done in a month then I hope they have the ground work laid. I’d just figure out hours then add 20% and set the price.
No way, would not touch.
I use a day rate. I hate hourly pricing and deliverables-based pricing is too risky in this scenario.
With deliverables-based pricing, they can always say, in the middle of the engagement, “You know, it’s be great if our dashboard can blow up planets. Can you build a Death Star in Domo?”
Domo is really easy to pick up. If you've used tableau or powerbi and know SQL, that's really all you need.
If you want help, try dm-ing me. My rate is $160 ph though if you can wing that to your customer. 🫰
Thank you all for the information provided!
No clue what your experience is but I'd say for a senior individual working alone in a hot market $200/hr is more than fair though you might consider $250/hr. You can negotiate down but I wouldn't go lower than $150-175/hr at absolute minimum unless you have an org that is cheap. So for a month of work (let's say 4x40 hr weeks) that's 160 hours. $32-40,000 for the job. You need to write up a statement of work that describes the scope and SPECIFIC deliverables (i.e., three data pipelines from three sources that feed one dashboard that has x functionality) to prevent them from scope creeping you too bad (though you should always be flexible). You can consider fixed price if you don't want to screw with hours or timelines.
They originally planned to pay hr but are also open to paying the deliverables. A good friend of mine recommended deliverable instead of hourly, but either way, still unsure on how to price my time
