The first thing I would say is that counsel outs are expected in the up or out model. You can always spin it right. I know people that were counseled out back in early 2013 who have done tremendously great in their career. Booz/Strategy&/pwc is a great firm but if this comes to an end, don't let that define you.
Same thing happened to me as happened to S&3. No more counseling out. I also had great util and it also didn't matter. HR was on the call. And like S&3, I was pissed, but I am now in a way better place. Doesn't sound like you are getting the axe but good luck to you, and I'm happy to chat/refer you to recruiters as well.
At the end of the day, not everyone is a great fit but that doesn't mean shit. I have met a bunch of people who couldn't do this job to save their lives and went on to be extremely successful.
I knew I would be shown the door months ago because the only partner in my practice I have worked with hates me.... Outside practice partners have been supportive, but not influential. I found a new job, pushed the start date out, and have been on a 6 month paid vacation. RP called and said that as expected I would be let go, but nothing official yet and I still have not heard anything! You are probably ok.
Ex-Booz guy here. We used to have "shoulder taps" - which was basically a way to say "leave in 3 months or you are fired".... Not sure if post acquisition process is the same
Prepare for the worst...
Yes that is how it happens. Absolutely out of nowhere unfortunately
It's your year end performance review not a marker of layoffs
Was HR invited?
This is how it went down with me. Short notice, in person from a partner who I've only ever interacted with on the phone. No shoulder taps. Prepare for the worst, but I do hope for your sake it's not that. If it is maybe we can set up dummy emails and chat?
S&3 yes, if it does turn out that way and you want to chat, we can work something out. Will update on Mon
So... I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to share this on fishbowl because it completely compromises my identity... But I published a blog post last night that I've been working on for a while. It chronicles how unhappy I was at PwC, being laid off, and what I learned after. It's kind of long but maybe some of you panicking can take comfort in it: http://www.happyhealthydeb.com/ponder/2016/6/2/2016-the-year-i-dropped-out-of-corporate-america-to-start-a-blog
@S&3 we are always hiring - I set up a burner at strategyandbeer@gmail - talk soon!
Thanks for the heads up PwC1, the situation does look like it has layoff written all over it...
Yea that's how's they've all been happening lately. Hope I'm not right.
PwC3- I really want to believe that but none of my colleagues have such a meeting setup. In fairness, partners are supposed to complete CRT feedback over next 2 weeks but my RP is not really a person who would go out of his way and do feedback in person
Let me rephrase - typically with the career discussion that's a layoff, it's with little to no notice. If it's a couple weeks from now or if you can email him to negotiate the date "something came up at client site etc" it's not a layoff. I wish I had more notice before I was laid off because I would've just take a short term sick leave (kidding... Kinda) 😂
PwC2 I hope that's the case. I will update this thread once I find out Monday
Unless they take my phone away, the firm phone is the only phone I have :-)
They do not but they wipe it! Physical phone is yours to keep
