Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

The first thing I would say is that counsel outs are expected in the up or out model. You can always spin it right. I know people that were counseled out back in early 2013 who have done tremendously great in their career. Booz/Strategy&/pwc is a great firm but if this comes to an end, don't let that define you.
Same thing happened to me as happened to S&3. No more counseling out. I also had great util and it also didn't matter. HR was on the call. And like S&3, I was pissed, but I am now in a way better place. Doesn't sound like you are getting the axe but good luck to you, and I'm happy to chat/refer you to recruiters as well.
Just in case I would definitely back up all of your contacts. Fortunately I had two phones and all my real friends at the firm knew my personal number so it wasn't a loss. But I have friends who had one phone and lost all their contacts, including personal ones
I've heard HR has to be on the line when you are being fired -- so maybe that's a good sign they are not included!
Utilization doesn't mean shit by the way mine was very high
...bob is that you? 😱
OP, S3 and S4-- associates or SAs?
S&5: SA. S&3: took an offer in tech, which I probably would have taken anyway but the Firm made it a much easier decision. P8: my name is not bob. Or is it...
@s4 congrats. Wish I'd seen the writing on the wal and had something lined up but I'm trying to move aggressively now! Is your firm hiring??
Thank you @S&3 :) Please also take comfort in the fact that when I posted this on my Facebook, I was bombarded with comments and private messages from people who felt the same. Some of them I barely knew. You are not alone in this. If you ever feel down, remind yourself that it's not easy to get a job at S& in the first place and you managed to do that. There are SO (!!) many companies out there who will hire you and actually value you. You may just have to open up your preferences a little and not be set on just consulting (it took me three months to figure that one out). Good luck with everything!
Update- Yup that's exactly what happened. This thread helped me a lot to be prepared and calm when I finally got the news. Thanks all. @S4 just emailed you on the burner account, thanks for setting it up!
They gave me some bs reason about low utilization and performance was good but not great etc. Was told that several factors like feedback, tough business environment etc led to decision
That sounds exactly like what I was told except that when I asked what about high utilization and good feedback (at least given to me), I was told that it was "just a metric." If everything is "just a metric" I have no idea what they were actually basing decisions on. Sucks that it happened to you so few months in, but you can find something that suits you much better. Email me at fishbowler2280@gmail if you'd like to chat more
Thanks S4, my thoughts exactly. I know we tend to rationalize and deny our shortcomings but my snapshots- the firn's own quantitative metric of performance- have been good. More than half of them have been partially at next level and none 'below level.' Besides I have little to no control over utilization just a few months in. Anyway, I'd rather focus on the what next than dwell on the why me
I meant S3
That's exactly the thought process I went through. I'm honestly way less upset than I thought I'd be once I realized that and am thinking of this as an opportunity - less than ideal circumstances, sure, but an opportunity nonetheless.
People who got promoted or stayed on had more "at next level" than anything else or were the kinda who'd go back to reviewers and negotiate for more at next. Snapshot are a a dangerous system in how it implies an objectivity that doesn't exist.
FYI I am in one of the 3 largest offices, had lowish utilization but decent snapshots.
Year end goes from 6/15 to 7/15 technically. Not sure if Strategy& is different. Hope it is just year end for your sake. But have that resume updated anyway just in case.
PwC2 You are probably right. Mine is Monday afternoon so pretty short notice. And my RP is out of another office but must be traveling to my office and decided to do it in person
Oh hm.... That's weird. Normally it's only in person if they're out of the same office. But if he's traveling to your office then maybe he just wants to say hi lol
Also when we were let go HR set up the email calendar invite. So you might be safe if it's not from them
