I really hate dealing with this as a manager, and watching employees struggle especially when speaking up backfires with other managers. We need stronger accountability, real consequences for bullies, and safer reporting systems. Everyone deserves respect at work, especially those already facing barriers.

I wish that all places had the proper respect for all types of people. The sad truth is that it seems that often the “bully” is the one who is closer to a manager (or someone in power) and so they get to perpetuate this bad behavior…
I’ve seen firsthand how fast a toxic vibe can spread if leadership shrugs it off. Stopping bullying starts with zero tolerance. No favoritism, no brushing things under the rug. I back my team, document everything, and make sure HR actually acts. Safe spaces don’t just happen, they’re enforced.
This is one of the few benefits to being in a position of authority. If I see this nonsense happening when I'm on the clock, I can and will crack down on it hard. I'm pretty easygoing by nature, but I'll snap if I catch any member of my staff bullying and belittling their coworkers. I have no tolerance for this juvenile nonsense that we all should have left behind in middle school.
