How do you advocate for yourself? I am a securities counsel at a pubco and do good work (I think...always solid reviews). But I think I'm getting slightly walked on wrt to comp increases and bonuses, especially compared to those I think advocate themselves more. Curious how others go about that? I like my role and am newish (under 2 years) so I'm not really looking to explore leaving.

No thoughts?

If you think you’re being walked on wrt comp then you should start your exit strategy. These days the market rewards mobility not loyalty. With your tenure, you’re at the sweet spot to be gearing up for your next move which will give you that pay bump you’re looking for. Don’t sit around passively expecting the company to manage your career. Take action and go make yourself some more money!

Anyone feel like your job sees you as "one of the good ones?" It hasn't explicitly been said, but I'm one of the only Black attorneys at the firm and I think my white colleagues and partners see me as an example of how Black folks "should be" cause I mind my business. Basically I feel like a token, and I don't know how to shift that idea while staying professional.

Got a temp offer for less than a year without promise of turning into full-time. Wanted to know what ppl think about temp jobs (looks bad on resume if I don't turn full-time later within the company?) and what comp should look like (e.g. 1.2× of regular comp?).

Got another perm offer in a different industry for similar salary, but I might have to relocate and I'm concerned the work may involve translation instead of pure legal work.

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review?
