I’m okay with it, esp if it means free food / getting to try something new that I don’t have to pay out of my own pocket for. I just don’t stay past 2 hrs for it if possible.

Also, if Mandatory Fun is so important, then it should be scheduled during business hours like other important things. Now I say "Nah, not going." If I could give my younger self advice, I would tell myself to say I had a "physical therapy appointment" during all those after-hours things. Doesn't make you sound sickly and a liability. It makes you sound like you tore your ACL in college and it needs more work.
If it's during a travel week, I get it. Anything outside of that, hell no.
its a part of consulting SA1 its established stop complaining and be a team player
so done with everyone who joined during/post covid fml

I complied in my younger years for fear of losing my job. I regret complying. I wish I had one of those Get Out of Jail Free cards to play like the other gals, "Sorry, gotta pick up the kids at daycare!"
Not mandatory after hours - nope!
Highly dependent on team and frequency. Some of these have been great in my experience. Others? Just no.
As long as the food is good and drinks are strong, I’m game.
I actually prefer when the company calls it mandatory. It’s always mandatory even if it’s not labeled as such. If you want to grow in an organization, you gotta put in your facetime. You gotta play the game.

We are in a relationship business especially consulting. If you want to move up, then you have to network.

When does this “after hours” occur and how can I sign up?
Yes if my friends from work are there too, otherwise no.
Only mandatory if you value career progress
It's great for team building if the company is paying for it
I think I hate everyone who joined after covid what the hell happened to this industry
I worked my ___ off for travel consulting and what do I get? Accentures value prop drove off a cliff, travel dropped, this genai s__t is f___ing our analyst pool, and now we have people questioning team travel dinners. Its paid food and alcohol wtf happened to our culture. Oh yeah, they killed st charles too. 😑
Thankfully my practice is fine, for now.
I barely even drink anymore and this thread wants me to open up a cold one before noon.
And to those thinking its to be like a family couldnt be more wrong. 50% are supposed to be gone by 3-4 years. It's about destressing, work review, and just being social without client staring at us.
If it's mandatory, it needs to be during office hours or a company wide retreat. If it's a company paid opportunity for socialize/ having fun with the idea that getting to know your colleagues in a non work setting will magically result in team building, it shouldn't be mandatory.
No!
We only have a Christmas Party. I pop in, spend like an hour, and dip out.
Worst part of the job. I avoid. Damn the consequences.
As long it's infrequent, I'm fine with it and even recommend it.
But needs to be infrequent. Max once per quarter.
