Utilization doesn’t matter.
Rising Star
OP—nothing. I know people who have never hit their utilization target, are considered high performers, and are promoted on schedule.
This is audit, by the way. Most audits are fixed fee so utilization is a made up number that doesn’t actually reflect profitability based on how audits are structured. Advisory and the tax consulting type stuff would be different.

I’ve found that metrics don’t really put you on a PIP. It’s usually a combo of your quality of work vs if people like you are not.

D1, sure, but layoffs aren’t happening in this market.
Depends on service line. I can only speak for audit, where utilization is barely discussed. It’s relevant only in that if majority of the people in an office don’t like you/trust you to do good work, they’ll naturally not pick you up on teams, driving down your utilization. If one team likes you to recur, even if it’s 1000 hours a year, you are safe from that aspect. Performance wise, as a first year you literally have to be caught lying or committing fraud or sexual harrassment to get fired. For second years you prob have to be the very last one in your class, can’t do any work correctly and seniors constantly taking things away and prepare for you to get on pip
Thanks M2!
Why do you want to get in a PIP?
Oh no, not trying to get on one, I’m trying to avoid it lol

Honestly you have nothing to worry about, you just started
Just be polite, listen take notes and ask question, be on time to any meetings
If you get review comments, don’t get defensive or upset just try to learn from them
