I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.
Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Compare to others in your role and in your industry
Solid advice.
Do your research with internal and external to your company. Definitely before salary negotiations when interviewing. But if others in your/that company are generally paid low when compared to the market then I wouldn't push salary with them. Instead go find the company that pays more for your skills.
True I think sometimes I can forego salary research and might need to add it to my list of things to check.
I would do research and see what the market value is for your role. That will ultimately tell you if you are being underpaid. And if you are, then it is time to push for more money.
What if the range for the job is quite broad depending on the company?
Do some research on what the pay bands would be for your role. The problem is that sometimes the ranges can be so wide that they don't tell you much. If you feel that you've been doing a great job and your compensation should reflect that, then make that argument. Take notes on your workplace wins and come up with a pitch you can make for a raise.
That’s the thing is sometimes it’s quite broad in what people are paid, I can negotiate what I think I’m owed but I guess they can just fully turn me down too
