How do you use AI at work? I’ve been trying to use it more to save myself some time (especially with admin work that doesn’t require much strategy), but always looking for ways to optimize!

I've used AI tools for brainstorming, more or less as an experiment. It can be useful, especially if you tell it to respond as a specific persona. It's like having a focus group in your phone. But I'm very skeptical of using it for much beyond that. The recent incident with the Chicago Sun-Times recommending books that do not exist is just the latest example of people trying to cut corners with AI and being humiliated.

Totally fair - and agreed! I’m also worried to put anything in that isn’t public yet in case they train their models on it. But I love the idea of responding as a specific persona - I haven’t tried that yet!

I use it for proofing and buttoning up copy. I don't have the patience for editing, so I'll throw all my thoughts into Chat GPT, then ask it to cut it down while still sounding professional and maintaining the essence of the message. It works wonderfully. I usually include a max word and sentence count to make sure it's concise as possible.

like

Yes!! I did this with a byline last week and saved me probably 30-40 minutes of trimming down a piece by 100 words

I use it to help me build drafts. I chat with Chat GPT like it's someone I'm talking to, and give it the general ideas I need for a press release or other news item. Then I ask it to help me outline, and give it feedback to get things right. It's so so helpful

Love that! I clearly am not using it to its full capacity! I’m so much better at reviewing/rewriting than drafting, so this is genius!

I agree with the other person, AI is great for brainstorming and making things quicker. Anything boring, I always try to use AI to help me maximize my time with things that matter most and are most exciting for me.

Very fair! And fully agreed on the boring things. I got find a way to get AI to do my time entry

I use it for a ton things: creating spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides, helping me craft self review and kpis, travel, i even upload screenshots of info and ask it to organize by level of importance or create a suggested folder path for organizing. I also ask it to find the best meeting times across time zones for scheduling, ask it to pull travel recommendations and even how to respond to emails. I use it as a gut check for my understanding of tone by asking things like: “if you received this email, what do you think the tone suggests, what if anything are they attempting to convey but now saying and how would you respond if this is a senior leader vs direct report”, etc.

Wow I’m so impressed!! The idea of asking it to gut check your tone is genius! Going to steal that :)

Hi all 👋 Looking for some advice. I’m in the latter stages of building my sustainable fashion platform and need investment to get it over the line and complete the product. I saw some sales managers discussing hiring strategies, especially for entry level roles (e.g. SDR, BDR).

One strategy that came up was having the applicant do 90 minutes of cold calling into real prospects with the hiring manager coaching.

What do you think of this approach? Would be curious to hear from both hiring manager perspectives and from candidate perspectives.

Would I still have chance to be offered?

I’ve been told my company is changing my title from Associate Director of BD to Sales Executive. I’m concerned it reads like a title demotion. Is it just semantics? How will this look for my career development? Curious about the standard perception of Sales Executive from a seniority perspective. Where does this land on the sales roles hierarchy? For context, it’s a professional services firm, I’ve been there 3+years, and they gave a Sales Executive title to someone who just started 5mo ago.

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Working on a new recipe today and tomorrow. Can you guess what I’m making? 😁
