Look up Apron_education on IG! She is the queen of SS and diversity in the classroom
Loooove this resource. Social studies is so important.
Check out Diverse Reads for the Classroom on Facebook. Lots of great books and ideas!
The primary version of we are wonders. Thats where I begin.
I use Arnie and His School Tools by Jennifer Veenendall to talk about how everyone’s body works differently and my kids loved it. Some of them were able to relate to having a motor that runs too fast. I have a flexible seating classroom so we talk a lot about how different people need different tools to learn. It helps them all embrace who they are and help one another.
My school has time set aside for morning meetings. I use this time to do a read aloud and have students make connections to themselves by asking a question. I've created slides by months to make sure I don't repeat a book. For October we read many books about Dios De Los Muertos but also The Proudest Blue, Suki's Kimono, etc which show diversity.
