To me, the truly wealthy are the people who can live a life of extravagant means entirely off of dividends, capital gains, carried interest, or other non-wage income. A family in NYC or SFO making $500K working 60 hours a week in consulting but with an average net worth and kids in private school isn’t wealthy in my view; the people who don’t collect a W2 and yet don’t hesitate about booking a $400K private jet to Australia from the USA definitely are. I’d posit you need to be pulling down at least $10 million USD / year, with a net worth in liquid assets over $100 million, to make the cut.
"Wealthy" is more about assets than income.
^ agree truly wealthy people don't work for their money, they let the money work for them. Making money while they play
We do 750k plus in Chicago, are in the top 1 percent of earners, but definitely do not roll like the above. You need to have 15M plus to be wealthy.
So are you saying at a household income of 750k that you consider yourself middle class?
