In taekwondo it is very important

Only if you’re working on a manufacturing project

I haven’t seen it be really relevant anywhere. It’s like adding a club to your resume to try to get into a better college

like

Hey man one of these days my flop club is going to be used!

I actually view it as a detriment. Look what happened to GE, the company which brought six sigma to fame in the 90’s. They gutted the business for immediate cost savings and have been playing catch up for the past 25 years

like

For federal yes. For commercial probably not.

Surprised at these answers - several people on my team have a black belt, several are pursuing. We do process improvement work almost every month. Would definitely improve comp for a new hire

like

Somebody above mentioned federal as a yes but otherwise no. Might apply to BAH?

My buddy has an mba from a top 10 plus the SSMBB and he is currently unemployed - so zero.

Zero

Zero to the power 💯

I think it’s one of those things that can help with internal promotion/recognition because it demonstrates career development learning. As a line item on a resume… relatively worthless

Depends on what you are doing. Very useful in manufacturing-but really better at the black belt level compared to green belt. If you are moving into industry for a high volume manufacturer, people love it and sometimes it's a requirement.

For those of you senior enough to have a direct report — do you feel like you’re properly equipped to know when and how to champion your junior talent for a promotion/raise? I love my boss as a human but doubting how efficiently she can vouch for me to senior leadership given how she’s typically reluctant to have difficult conversations (she’s admitted to this). Do you think about this often in how it makes you a good/stronger boss?

I got my year end review and need “another 6 months of consistency” to get promoted. I know my bonus is lower than the median for my pay band. Should I ask for a pay raise / larger bonus or just wait for promotion in 6 months so I don’t rock the boat?

Cross posting this but could use the female perspective — Got a really substantial (~40%) mid year raise after I brought in a basically unsolicited competing offer from one of our peers. My firm typically only adjusts salary on an annual basis in March, and I’m pretty worried I’ll see a smaller than normal annual raise this spring to “make up for” my out of sequence mid year raise. Any advice on advocating for myself to ensure that doesn’t happen?

Hi D&A 🐟, I’ve been thinking of doing a career pivot from cyber security to data science. My current role is very technical and have experience with Python, PowerShell, AWS (SAA cert), Azure (Security Engineer cert in progress), and a bunch of other cyber security related technical skills. I have experience doing basic data analysis but not at the level of a data scientist. What would you recommend I do to gain these data scientist skills? I think the end goal would be to transition from cybe

Wonder if anyone can offer advice on which cert to pursue next? I obtained my CompTIA Security+ last year and wondering if I should go for the CySA+ or Pentest+ next. I also have my AWS CCP and will be sitting for the Solutions Architect soon as well. Currently not doing security stuff at work but would love to keep my skills going. I was hoping one of these next certs will help me finally break into a security role and love the idea of pentesting but not sure if the CySA+ is more beneficial.
