How is engineering manager role . Thinking of applying will it be less of dev work ?

I’m a pharmacist and currently doing an MBA. I have only 2 YOE as a pharmacist and I’m trying to find a career path that will suit me. Worked in big law since this summer. Feedback is that my legal writing is first class, but that I’m severely sub standard when it comes to aptitude for work as a lawyer with paying clients.

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. Any advice would be appreciated!
