That’s firm dependent. When I was going through a rough patch the managing partner offered to staff me on other practice areas but your results may vary.
I wouldn’t go it exclusively with that in mind without talking to your employer about the possibility AFTER you’ve paid your ID dues.

I received an offer from a reputable ~20-attorney firm that handles complex lit cases. I also received an offer ($15k more than the smaller firm) from an Am Law 200 firm. I’m going into my 3rd year of practice. Practice area is the same for both offers. Same billables. Obviously there are other factors to consider (benefits, bonus structure, etc.), but I’m interested in hearing thoughts on pros & cons of a small firm, vs. pros & cons of a big firm. (I am clerking for a judge now.)
