In my first company I was having a bond for 2 years and and the management were treating the employess as slaves and used to force them to work 16 hours (used to get Overtime pay ) if you denied they used to say you have signed a bond. One day they told I am into dual employment where I am helping others in getting job and I have cash transactions for which they dont have.they terminated me and says in BGV they will show my termination doc. I see biglaw raising the salaries. I’m in midsize regional firm payed $163K class of 2014. We’re currently trying to convince the management to increase pay. I’m at a mid size transactional firm. I’m a total night owl and my partners have OK’d me starting the workday at around 11am because I regularly work until midnight or later. I get so much more done after dark! I still get some side eye from other associates, but 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

I accepted a job offer in April to start a few months from now, post clerkship. All conflicts/background check went smoothly etc. Since accepting my offer, the firm has increased their 1st year pay across the board to be higher than my offer was (which was, at the time, what 2nd yeas got). I’ve been running into weird happenings at my new firm learn of everything “I misunderstood” about my package. I don’t actually qualify for quarterly bonuses at a pro-rated billing rate; no 401ks till year 2; and the biggest—we don’t qualify for a raise unless we are here during the entire fiscal year. We have a 2100 billable req which I’m barely hitting. We also get paid below 6 figures. I learned that the new associates came is at least $10k over us. I graduated 2020–but 1st firm job. Advice?

I’m working at a small firm that is more like a one-stop shop. We’ve had instances where a client of ours have asked for a deliverable that is outside of our expertise and that we need specialists for. However, the relationship partner (is that what they’re called) for some reason wants everything to go through them rather than having the specialists directly engage with the client. I’m a second year BigLaw associate that pays market. I was offered the position at a modified salary and hourly expectation due to their expected work flow needs. I’m wondering what is the best way to approach the topic of getting on the full salary/hours. Do I wait until the bonuses are given at the end of my first year? Or bring it up at mid-year review?
