I think it can vary. If it’s a job you applied for, it could take a couple of weeks. Most places use some sort of program to scan and look for keywords (which can lead to biases) and then review the ones programs find to be a good match. It can be less time if you add in a referral within the company. If there is a role you’re interested in and you know the hiring manager, I would reach out to them first. If it goes well, they will encourage you to apply and you can put them down as a referral (may need to ask if that’s ok to do). After that conversation, the hiring manager can reach out to their recruiter to be on the look out for your application to help expedite the process.
If it’s an internal role you’re applying for, it can be just a few days and usually there is some preferential treatment for internal candidates. USUALLY.. I know some companies that for some reason rebuff internal candidates but that seems more like a reflection of the hiring manager not knowing internal talent.
Oh ya I totally understand that! Especially if it sounds like a great opportunity! From applying to rounds of interviews then to an offer and then negotiations and final acceptance, it can take 2 months!
I have heard back as quickly as within 1 hour of applying, and I’ve also gotten an email 5 months after applying (I had already taken and started a new job by that point). There’s no predictable pattern to this but I would guess the majority of the time, you’d hear within 1-4 weeks.
Wow an hour? Yeah seems the case.
