I’ve seen it vary from 20 to 45 . Depends on the shop, level of the role and industry.
Industry , again, I have seen more than 40, but depends on the lifecycle and culture of the company , a freshly public co will be worse than an established spot as you’ll be designing controls and playing a role in setting up the risk framework (depending on your role) . TLDR, interview the group when you interview and you’ll find out. PA always has the potential for more hours as it’s a billable hours concept , industry will have a natural cap as not like you can pick up more clients.
From my experience, it depends on the maturity of the audit group and the type of work. I've seen internal audit at banks and FAANG work as much as PA.
