Either you’re highly efficient or your billing is fraudulent.
I also just saw a notification for the comment you deleted. Yikes….
I haven't billed more than 1600 in the last 7 years. I am on track for around 1500 this year. May not even hit that. The most I did was around 2200 in 2012. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but 1500-1600 is so much better. I work maybe a weekend or two per year. I coach my kids' sports teams, and rarely if ever miss any family or school events. I am going to be taking my boat out with my kids this afternoon. High hours are not a flex.
Been quite a few years since I had to bill at a Big Law firm but certain practice areas lend to easier billing. For example, if you do a lot of litigation, it’s really easy to bill large blocks when you’re in trial prep. Same thing if you work on really large transactional matters where you can bill large blocks. If you’re doing transactional or litigation work for small businesses, billing is always difficult. If you’re not padding hours (I remember shady associates who billed for bathroom and snack breaks in the middle of a block of time), which I assume you’re not, and aren’t sweating the time you’re spending consider yourself blessed. If your life circumstances change and you desire more free time in the future, then make a change then. Nothing wrong with making hay while you’ve got the time and back to do it.
2100 averages to 175 a month and around 8.4 a day most months, which isn't terrible. Sounds like you're in insurance defense where you always have work and it's easier to bill high.
