I try to treat my household like I treat my job. To-do lists. Clean something every day.
Same here.
I absolutely HAVE to exercise every day, and after work seems to be the best time for me. It clears my head of all the crap that's spinning around from work and helps me focus on what I need to do for the rest of the night. If I don't work out in some way, the night usually spirals and I get nothing done.
Same here but now I have two toddlers so that routine went out the window and now I have to log on until like 10:30 every night just to hit 8 billables for the day so there is no good window to exercise.
I dont know what to do. :(
I’ve eliminated friends and social media. Yikes!
I was just talking to my therapist about how ADHDers tend to eliminate friends because we can’t make the time. I’m getting sick of myself doing this. But as a working lawyer adhd mom, making more time is not an easy feat
Rising Star
I just started using a new app called Mind Node that helps me create order out of the chaos of everything non-work related.
Also, Cozi is a great app for coordinating grocery lists and who is picking up what kid when as you can link calendars, to-dos, etc. there is a premium version, but I get by fine with the free version.
Now, when my spouse says “we need X” I say “put it on the cozi list!”
Thanks, I'll definitely check out those apps.
A routine. I hate routines (so I can’t really have one now), but in the past I had one and it allowed me to do everything I wanted to get done. And don’t overload your schedule!
Alas, this is the way
Have something that you can do to give back to yourself that you love. All of my reading on ADHD (having been diagnosed 7 months ago) has come back to the principle that hobbies and recreation provide a very good outlet to keep work from getting overly mundane. Especially in this field, the big thing I've found is that finding ways outside of work to make practice sustainable is the most important thing.
Exercise really helps if you can muster the energy. Or, just listening to music, meditating - I know it doesn't sound fun but it really does help. I also started learning portuguese and I try to listen to the lessons while I'm cooking, walking on the treadmill, etc.
Exercise really helps me as well. I have to go every day or I am a potato after work.
Get a friend or someone you are dating/partnered with to do mundane tasks with you like buying groceries or meal prep on the weekends.
You can use the same principle for doing chores if you are comfortable having someone in your space when things aren’t 100% done
Yeah I think these comments are proving that isolation isn’t good for adhd but routine and physical activity are. Great suggestions here. Godspeed everyone ;)
I give space for my ADHD to run rampant (like 1 hour) and use lists for the rest of the time
this is the same exact thing I do. I have lists for just about everything in my life.
