In this job market and industry, I would move asap. You could try to negotiate a phased move while you manage through the relocation - a few days a week at the new location and remote the other days (or some variation). If you wait too long to start the job, I would be concerned that the job would be at risk.
I’d want to try a job remote for a few months to make sure we both liked each other. Very risky to sell houses and pull kids from school to move across country otherwise.
Luckily do not have kids atm, just my spouse and I. And on a lease. Wondering if asking for 6-8 weeks is acceptable, to be able to find a rental out there, move etc. Can always start remote potentially?

Usually 6 months. You might get longer if you have proof you really plan to move (like a lease break, or property sale in your existing location). Otherwise they won’t trust you’re serious about relocating. They will want you to be genuinely committed to joining the team on site and in the time zone.

Exactly. Are they not offering that? You should commit to a couple of in person trips while you plan the move.
I had a job a few years ago where I started remotely and then they gave me 3-4 weeks after that date to move from Boston to NYC. I personally think the remote start is great because a lot of the first few weeks is onboarding anyways.
You can usually negotiate start date, and you should have a clear idea of expectations if not while interviewing, then when you have an offer. I’m surprised if they haven’t mentioned it already. If they’re offering you a role, they want you there. This is the most negotiating power you’ll have in this relationship.
Is it at OP?
No, agency
In my experience it was 3 months after probation (so 6 months overall).
