A bit extreme, still relatable

1. Etiquette classes (you can watch YouTube videos or take in person classes). 2. Speech coach ( if you’re insecure about your accent) 3. Invest in a stylist to get you set up with high quality basic business wear. Dressing the part is very important so set a budget for this part. 4. Read self help books about executive presence/ self improvement. 5. Observe, observe, observe. Overall observation of people in higher position can be very helpful (how they carry themselves and act in certain situations). This should be a good start :)
Dinner etiquette- elbows of the table, sit straight up and eat with fork in left hand and knife in right. While eating rest your silverware at 4(knife) and 8(fork) o’clock. When finished with the meal, place your silverware on the plate with ends at 4 o’clock. This is good table manners
D1- Agree! Hate seeing someone chew their food with open mouth! Please close your mouth when you eat! Or sneeze/cough in a room full of people without covering their mouth with hand/elbow. Seriously that is just a BIG no no!
K1 - fork in left hand, knife in right. I assume you’re right handed because I do the exact opposite as a left-hand dominant person.
1. Ask someone more senior if you can shadow them in their executive meetings - both conference calls and in person meetings. Listen and watch what they do well, what they don’t do well.
2. Keep doing #1
Same! Following
You, sir/ madam, have read my mind
I guess we are on our own here 😔
Thanks K1. This is helpful.
What do you think might be the most common mistakes related to etiquette?
Dinner etiquette, which no one seems to know or follow
I thought you were talking more about etiquette at work and was curious bc a lot of the etiquette rules are different for men and women (like ladies first, shaking men's hands first...) which I feel contradicts to our effort of having an equal workplace
That’s also something very important think about.. always make it ladies first, open doors and hold elevators. However, I wouldn’t shake a mans hand before a females... that’s a little to extreme. Again, observer someone in the work environment that you admire and would like to be like one day. That’s the easiest I think.
@d2 me too, since I’m left handsd
K1 - great to know that they are still people like you. Let me guess, you’re from the East coast? ;)
