Work hard and be good to them.
I’m confused. You do different things. Are they writing copy that’s better than what you’re coming up with?

@OP I am one of those rare people who can write and art direct equally well. I was a double major in college: design and journalism. Just liked both equally always.
Having said that, it is not at all expected for most people to do both things, and much less do them well. And that’s totally ok.
If you’re a writer and writing is your thing, get really good at it. Work on the actual craft of writing. Writing is easy, but being a really good writer, is not easy at all. And the only way to get really good at it is by doing it and practicing and learning from your mistakes. Be glad that you have talented partners. By all means learn from them, but hone your own skills and set yourself apart by doing what YOU love and are good at. Focus on yourself, not on what others are doing.
Yall do different things don’t be too hard on yourself. Also, having a partner that’s better than you is amazing. You can learn from them. Remember, You never want to be the smartest person in the room.
Be nice to yourself too. Take breaks. Get yourself nice coffee/treats.
What’s making you feel pointless? That’ll guide a lot of what you can do or how you can change your mindset. I will say that in most cases your partner appreciates you and it’s a blessing to be partnered with someone you respect greatly - who can push you to be better.
Agreed with CD2. What I’m hearing is that you work with people who are strong in concept and craft and you are worried that without your AD you won’t be as successful - mostly because of hard skills.
Few things:
-No matter your skillset, you bring something unique to the table for having a creative POV and being another mind to bounce ideas with.
-Like the others were saying, work on what you can improve on. Become killer at your craft - which is writing. You could also pick up hard skills and even perhaps learn from your AD those creator/visual skills that you admire.
-Is there anything your AD is weaker in that you are good at? Could be hard skills or soft skills. Maybe it’s presentation/client skills, a great production eye, ideating, finding killer references, comedy, etc. Lean into your existing strengths that could help you two be a stronger team.
I say this as an AD who always felt like the weaker link and struggled a lot with that. It wasn’t true at all and if anything, I was way better than I thought I was after becoming independent. You’ll be ok and it’s normal. Your mind can just be mean. You’re lucky to have a strong partner who is scary good - could always be the other way around.
If you both enjoy being in this partnership and feel like you’re stronger together than being on your own, that’s what matters and is the whole point.

Yeah, we need more details about what’s making you feel “pointless”
Just be the best partner you can be. Michael Jordan needed Scottie Pippen. Don’t get wrapped up in who does what, just do your job as well as you can and do all the little things to be a great partner and you’ll go far together.
