McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

Bain & Company Fishes, I wonder if you have suggestion on office selection, I am finishing my dual degree(advanced degree and applying for post MBA level job) next year and now applying for consulting roles in the states. I have never been to the states and will only arrive on campus in Fall. I am keen on Seattle and SF offices but I have no affiliation or experience there. Any suggestions? Didn’t think it was possible to be more pretentious than Deloitte but I guess that’s what BCG has on Deloitte. Works work. Either place you’ll be unhappy in 6-12 months. I mean that honestly and respectfully. I came from industry and hope to go back as the work life balance actually exists.
I also strongly disagree with the unhappy in 6-12 months. I love BCG. Our culture is great; work is demanding but I feel like the firm really cares about us and takes care of us. So many office affiliation events, social events, etc. Many of my coworkers are truly friends.
I came from industry as an experienced hire and my WLB is materially better as a consultant at BCG.
Can’t speak to culture differences, since I haven’t worked at D, but my experience at BCG has been great - nice, smart people who genuinely care about my development and the sustainability of the job. Generally pretty down-to-earth and helpful (please don’t take the comments from my colleagues above as representative of the firm 🙄).
Generalist Consultant. BCG encourages everyone to start their first 2-4 years as a generalist, before selecting an industry or function to specialize in.
There are some exceptions (e.g. if hired for a specific practice area role or on an expert career track).
Hope that helps!
Been at BCG 10 years and I can attest that folks are generally down to earth. Are there exceptions? Sure - but the norm is pretty low key
Looks like there should be enough data points from those posting in this thread for OP to decide what the prevailing culture is like at D vs. BCG 😀. Enjoy your weekend!
