My team is not cohesive it all. And there's a huge age gap between all of us, which I really think is part of the problem. The youngest is 30, I'm in my mid-50s, and we even have one that's 70 years old. It makes it extremely difficult. The youngest one has told us she needed a safe place, after complaining about how she was completely overwhelmed with everything. It doesn't help that she spends more time talking with everybody on campus, instead of doing any work. I'm extremely frustrated. It's to the point where we don't eat lunch together, barely talk outside of our weekly PLC meetings, and I keep my door shut unless I absolutely have to open it.
They ignore it, even though I have voiced concerns.
My team is not cohesive as well. Our grade chair isn’t really a leader and just took the job to please the principal. So no strong leadership and most of the team members are lazy. They want to do the bare minimum and have everything handed to them. It’s rough but I just try to remember that I WILL go above and beyond for MY kiddos. I WILL do MY job. Hope it gets better for all.
Seriously, don’t understand team members that do the bare minimum!! Good for you for going beyond!
I wish our team was cohesive but we are three very different people. I’m the only female. What makes it harder is the fact that the guys I work with think we are such cohesive team.
We each teach different things as well so that makes us even more separate. We are the only departmentalized grade. My one team mates transition to teach license expired in January and has done what he needs to do to renew it. He doesn’t actually have an education degree. And the other has terrible classroom management but doesn’t think he does he just thinks it’s the students. I would switch grade levels except for the fact that I like being departmentalized.
My team is fairly agreeable, but the workload is uneven. I end up doing most of the work, our oldest teammate won’t show up early or stay late for anything, and the third is a new teacher. I have only been teaching a few years myself, but since the most experienced member won’t do any extra work unless he is told to, I have had to step up myself.
My team is a mix, and it really depends on the day. 1 team member is negative about EVERYTHING, and very gossipy. 1 walks in as the bell rings in the morning and asks what I’m teaching, then takes those ideas or asks for the resources I’m using to go with them. My last team member is my saving grace and the only reason I don’t want to leave my team. She’s level headed, calm in tense situations, and always gives the best advice. I try to be like her every day!
