I don't want to demotivate. But I want to give you the hidden truths.
Things aren't smooth as people suggest that it is easy to switch or we can switch anytime.

You may have good skills or be fully prepared for the switch you're gonna do. But the main part is between you and your goal, It's not just your thoughts and efforts but also it's with the HR/Recruiter/manager and more people. They may not feel confident in taking a person who has worked in a totally different experience. Unless you do something exceptional project that impresses them and standout from other candidates who have experience in the same domain.

Again currently they are not even interested to go further down the resume as they see a person's experience and decide it's not a match and left swipe your resume.

Your luck, right timings and of course the right HR matters who is willing to give the opportunity to get interviewed.

Times are changed. They have different perspectives.

Again my sayings here are subjective. It might not be totally correct. But I have put on points so you contemplate if you haven't thought like this.

It is never too late to learn anything; you can do it now. But, the question you should be asking is why you want to do it.
Is it because you feel you can add more value to your organization as an FSD and earn more money or is it because you think the grass is greener on the other side?
If you are looking at this only as a way to get more money then you are going to face a lot of competition from others who are also in it just to add some additional skills to their resume. There will not be much to differentiate yourself from them.

My advise, instead of looking at adding more skills (Java, cloud) to your resume, look at how you can grow as a professional from here. FSD development is not a skill, it's an attitude.
Try and become someone who genuinely enjoys creating products and that automatically means you are a full stack person. Think of some interesting products that you can develop. I am sure there are multiple problems to be solved in your current project itself. Build it out end to end and then project yourself as a product creator.

The industry will always need people who can learn new things and create something end-to-end. Tools will come and go, a creator attitude will sustain forever.

All the best.

full stack you will have to learn atleast 2 yr Salesforce but why are you moving learn penetration testing cybersecurity testing

like

I have developed an interest in full stack development now, that is the reason why I want to move into it

like

You can learn but when it comes to giving interviews you might face tough questions as your experience is 7 + years

like

Yes that will definitely help but they will consider you as 3 years experienced !! And offer the package accordingly

like

I think instead of fulk stack, switching to DevOps with certification will give you good exposure.

like

True

It's never late. You can prepare yourself and try to give interviews. You will initially feel hard, once you start understanding the interview pattern it would be easy to crack in. Try service based companies it would be easier.

What's your CTC if you are not in higher slab then switching would be easy.

Also use the 4+3yrs strategy you mentioned

like

None of the big companies specify what you worked. All they can verify is the designation. If your designation is generic then they won't.

I feel performing well in the interview is more important.

It would be hard, but not impossible

like

It is difficult to achieve but not impossible. I can tell you my experience:

I started in BI development and worked for almost 3 years then moved to erp developmemt in oracle and sap for around 3 more years.

After taking external training and doing some free work for java backend colleagues, At 6 years i convinced my manager to make a move to java backend development. For the first year I worked on both java as well as erp. Then 2 more years i worked on java development at the same org as i was not able to crack interviews. After around 30 interviews at 9 years, i cracked 2-3 good product based mnc's and made a move with 2x of compensation. Cracking the interview is toughest part.

You may think it was slow. But real world is not idle. If you will not show experience, you will not get interview calls or HR will cut you from neck by offering you less salary. Less salary will not serve you purpose to make a move. You have to show experience in technology.

So my suggestion would be:
1. Do it slow, pick 1 for the first phase, be it ui or backend.
2. Take some external coursework on the technology
3. Show loyalty and dedication in current org, do some free work for development collegues in extra time. This will give you some exposure.
4. If you get something in your current org that will be very benificial.
5. Fake some experinece and try giving interviews as much as you can, note down each and every question after interviewes
6. Don't be demotivated, try giving interviews untill you make it. It can take a year or 2.

Thanks for that motivation

It's never too late.

Yes you can learn

like

It's never too late!

You can expect your package to go down, but you can minimize this damage by tweaking your experience on your CV to talk about the Java dev you did, cleverly omitting the testing part.

After 2 to 4 years, it will mean nothing. Experience of 5 years and 8 years means nothing different, and then 10 and 15 years mean nothing different.

I suggest finding Java jobs, backend or full stack, in your company first. If that does not work out, go to smaller companies, work for a year or two, and then switch. With every switch, you move few more years of experience as Java exp.

Also, check your motivation for doing that. If you just want to get out of testing but don't love coding like crazy, then pen test -> security is also a good option.

Another area that is really hot right now is AI. Companies think they can use AI for everything, including testing. You can also build this niche—AI tester or expert on reducing the cost of testing by using AI. Many people will lose their jobs around AI, but this can help you move faster.

If you are ok with less salary initially why would anyone not take you..once proved you have to jump to higher salary

like

It is difficult with this experience

I suggest you make some good full stack personal projects and publish them on GitHub for public viewing. Include your GitHub link in your resume. Deploy some of the projects on a live domain temporarily with a free account on sites like heroku, mention the links in your resume. The interviewer may like your work and take you in. Do try to add LLM integration in your web app or add any ML specific feature.

thanks for your suggestion

This is great that you choose to switch to Full stack ,
I would suggest you to gain excellence in QA flow and trust me QA has lot of scope ,
With 7.5 years in QA now you able to grow as Architect level and after crossing 11+ you can switch to Product Management by doing some certification like PSPO or PMP, if you choose to go full stack now your company or client consider you as 7.5 yrs experience guy and they expect same level of expertise in full stack however your team or manager know you just switching from qa to dev but you have go cover everything quickly

like

I am basically a java fullstack developer, I am actually giving out interviews, I feel that it is going too tough, I am not sure abt you, if you start now I don't kw how good you are are java but yeah, Interviews will be thought to crack.. That is for sure...

Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. This was a little bit expected, as the role is requiring a few years less experience than I have and also in a much cheaper market. They already told me the salary range during this first call, but wondering if they like me enough and I get an offer, how I might approach negotiating for more. I would be making much less than I do now, but it is a dream company.
