I am currently a real estate counsel at a FANNG company. And my background is also in commercial real estate. I have been applying to jobs at other companies with no luck so far, mostly because real estate counsel roles do not come up very often and I want to stay with tech companies. I am thinking about re-tooling to become a product counsel by applying to an AI product counsel role internally at my current company. Assume that I can get it,would this be a wise career move? Thanks in advance.

Yes, but I doubt you’ll get the AWS AI or AGI role given what’s going on with Amazon. Good luck and happy to chat in dms. I’m moving externally from Amazon right now.

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

Trials are rare, and I just don’t think these guys have actually tried many cases. Cont. below…
