For those of you who switched to decaf, I found a really delicious Ethiopian decaf coffee https://www.gocupper.com/collections/all-coffee/products/decaf-ethiopia-guji I don’t think I’m gonna go back to caffeinated coffee even after I have the baby. Without caffeine in my body I sleep better now and have even better energy ✌️✌️✌️

You need to get bonvoyed to know the difference.. stay at a few Bonvoy properties and see what plat/titanium gets there or even Hilton diamond. I agree with EY, surely overall the service industry might be just nosediving after covid (airline, hotel, restaurant.. ) but it’s far worse out there. Fellow globalist for 5 years currently in an upgraded corner room suit that I had to ask at time of check in but didn’t have to use suite upgrade cert.
Fair enough. I was thinking of switching to Marriott but it’s worse? Sigh…I know I would never go Hilton too many large large hotels that they can’t keep up with maintenance.
YMMV - I’ve been a Globalist for the past 7 years and haven’t noticed many differences. It’s still the best hotel status ime albeit some properties are better than others.
Also don’t understand what you mean with the “centric” offering - it’s not new and almost all offer proper restaurants and bars for food, participate in all the Hyatt rewards (suite upgrades, free breakfast, etc.) and have the same brand standards - they’re upscale above HP/HH and below Grand Hyatt which they usually fit the bill.
Here are my main issues..
1. Most rengency’s shut down their regency club during Covid and most at that point got rid of them for good. Yes we get breakfast but not much of a perk on business or even vacation. The club gave flexibility and different offerings throughout the day. So here’s your 30 bucks in breakfast and you lose it if you don’t use it.
2. Suite upgrades - yes we can get them but consistently I’ve found that you have to ask when checking in. Been told if you don’t ask we don’t do a suite upgrade. Seems chintzy. Same with late check out. Used to be we will make your cheockout at 4 yes? Now never get it without my prompting. Poor execution for their valued customers.
3. Consistent property over last year and half coast to coast..
Grand on WC - got bed bugs and they were like oh well what are you going to do. Here’s 5k points
Centric east coast - no one working front desk for check in for 25 mins. Came back not even an apology.
Midwest regency - no towels at check in. Called down didn’t get them until I went down like 2 hours later tired of waiting and bed wasn’t even fully made (missing sheets).
West coast Andaz - went to check in around 1, they are like you’re toom is not ready. Didn’t offer another room option or anything else and then said well you know check in is at 4. Never got that as a globalist before. Get room may not be ready, an apology, maybe offer options to do but nope just oh we’ll deal with it.
Across Hyatt’s - I know made service has become more on request but see that consistently that made service once every 3 days. I remember when globalists had turn done service even. As well they are all looking more worn down compared to before.
Maybe it’s just me, I just feel like Hyatt isn’t providing the great service they used to do. I loved the consistency, the attitude and the overall properties. Now I am not so sure.
Fair concerns but it’s true across brands in the US. Demand is through the roof and labor is in short supply. Financing is extremely hard to get so renovations and new construction is at decade lows with over 60% of new projects in the US on pause (https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/us-hotel-developers-run-out-cash-construction-lending-dries-up-2023-06-05/)
Hilton cut breakfast for elites and replaced it with a $10-15 credit ($25 at its top brands) that mostly doesn’t cover breakfast. Lounges are being cut across brands to improve margins given more investor / PE ownership combined with less business travel, and you’ll see on Flyertalk the same issues with suite upgrades and late checkouts. (https://thepointsguy.com/news/the-future-of-hotel-lounges/amp/; https://onemileatatime.com/news/hotel-owners-cut-club-lounges-amenities/) />
Elites don’t even get free breakfast or lounge access at EDITION and Ritz-Carlton’s (2/4 luxury Marriott brands) and you have to pay for resort / amenity / destination fees - many brands that have to offer breakfast only offer “continental breakfasts” to elites. At least Hyatt requires an entree, app, and coffee/juice or full buffet at full-service brands.
I’ve had turndown at higher-end brands (PH, Alila) but most at least offer daily housekeeping but this has been cut by all brands to the point that the hospitality unions are trying to push back (https://www.npr.org/2023/05/11/1175336181/hotels-daily-room-cleaning-do-not-disturb-labor-union-jobs).
Overall agreed service isn’t like pre-COVID but with no financing, labor issues and turnover, and more PE / investor ownership of hotels pushing on margins that is the reality of hospitality in the US. The experience will be much better in Europe or Asia where you have fewer of these issues and better elite recognition. In the US I still have experienced Hyatt being better on average than all of the other chains sans the legacy Amerisuites HP/HHs in elite recognition, property quality, and service. It’s more everyone has gotten worse but Hyatt is still the best option.
This is helpful thread. I have been Hyatt and globalist only for last 3 years and wasn’t sure if I should move to Marriott next year onwards. Looks like a Hyatt is still better (despite losing some of its special customer service attributes).
