Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

No need to proactively address it. If it comes up for whatever reason just explain as you did above- your previous role was eliminated in between your interview rounds. Nothing suss about that
Thank you! I’m just anxious because this is a phenomenal opportunity and I don’t want anything to jeopardize it. I’ll wait and see if it gets brought up. My references know I’m not employed and my LinkedIn is updated so it definitely isn’t a secret, it just genuinely didn’t come up in this interview process yet.
No, and to be honest I would not have even brought it up.
I haven’t brought it up yet, and won’t unless I’m asked about it. I’m sure I’m worrying for nothing. But it’s just a weird timing situation and I’d hate for anyone to think I was being dodgy when I just didn’t want to put the cart before the horse or undermine my negotiating power.
With the date being so soon and it being verifiable, I wouldn’t worry much about it. As long as everything is/was accurate when you hit the submit, that’s all that matters.
Thanx for the reassurance! It’s a difference of one month on paper but really across only 2 weeks. I’ll be sure to update here with the end result, so anyone who finds themselves in a similarly weird situation can hopefully find this post and read the advice.
Just wait don’t jump the gun
That’s what I’ve decided to do. Anxiety though lol. This market is so wild, I second third and forth guess everything I hate it.
I would not worry about it. Since the time you applied you were employed there.
Update: Been 3.5 business days since I did all my onboarding paperwork and they had what they needed to run a background and employment check and no one’s mentioned anything about it. Fingers crossed I panicked for nothing!
