I build every plan with a buffer, risk scenarios, and escalation paths because I’ve learned the hard way what happens when things go sideways. And yet, when the launch slips, the fingers point my way. Never mind that the dev team changed priorities mid-sprint, or a key vendor dropped off. Somehow I’m the one who “didn’t plan well enough.” I’m tired of absorbing blame for things outside my control. How do you plan for unpredictability without becoming the scapegoat?

Be extra communicative with the timelines built and flag any change that truly affects the timeline/schedule and how that impacts EACH AND EVERY TEAM. Make everyone (clients included) understand the moment something changes what that means and get them to confirm receipt.

Nothing shuts someone up faster than a response with a screenshot of a Webex chat or an email with the starting phrases “PER THE ATTACHED…” or “AS DISCUSSED…”

Be 10 steps ahead and CYA

I am a woman who has been working as a tech PE investor for 8 months now, and have been feeling extremely discouraged by my experiences in this sector so far. I regularly get mistaken as the “administrative assistant” in meetings and email chains, have had things said to me by men such as “the only way you work in private equity is as a receptionist”, and have even been at networking events where men have literally grabbed my ass when no one was looking. Any advice on how to handle this?
