First, don't give up. Getting through law school and passing a Bar Exam is no easy feat, yet you've succeeded at doing it. I have severe ADHD, and I've been tempted to give up; but I'm glad that I didn't.
One thing that helps a lot is when writing a document in Word, before I submit it, I click on Review, and then on Spelling and Grammar.
I have found that medication makes a huge difference. I subscribed to ADDitude magazine, which has many helpful articles.
I don't know you, but I have faith in you.
All the Best!
Dan
What kind of mistakes are you making? Is it something you could have your assistant take a look it before you submit it? Sometimes just having another set of eyes on things helps.
Keep pushing, it takes a long time to learn success in this job. This happens most to me when I'm pressed on time and need to complete a final draft. I've tried to minimize the fallout for my mistakes by scheduling several rough draft check-ins before the final draft is due.
If you’re brand new or very junior, this is a common feeling. Everything is new, and mistakes are part of learning.
Keep at it. Incorporate checklists and other resources available to you. But also, find a way to work that works for you. For example, I created my own checklists because my brain needed different tools/reminders. I also worked slower than some other folks because I had to double (sometimes triple) check my work. Other times, I needed to take a break, either to work on something else or just an actual break and then come back to wrap up a project.
Try some different tactics and see if anything helps. But either way, go easy on yourself. The job is hard enough as is.
I think this is why I tend to hyper focus or triple check my work. It’s like I turn into a perfectionist in order to try to “mask” my ADHD.
