I currently work in m&a advisory and have been working in for a year. Before that i worker as an analyst at a bank in capital market operations for 8-9 months and worked before that at a software firm for 4months doing marketing operations. In regards to canadian experience class. What noc should I put myself as? And is it okay that my 2 years of experience are in different fields and could be in different nocs?

Has anybody left the firm they started with to either go it alone or start a new firm with a similarly situated lawyer? It seems I’ll have to make a decision RE join a big firm, start a new one with another attorney(s) or go it alone in the next 5 years and I don’t even know how to begin to make a plan.

Although I know you don’t need to pass the patent bar to “technically” do patent litigation, would it be a dead end move to pursue patent litigation without a technical degree / admission to the patent bar? In other words, would most BL firms refuse to staff associates on patent litigation cases if they don’t have a technical degree?

Does anyone have any insight into partners retiring early? I am at a point where I need to consider leaving if I am not aiming for partner. I don’t see myself working past my 40s. My partner and I are not big spenders and anticipate have enough to retire comfortably in 40s (obviously a lot can change). Got laid off in tech corp dev making 250-300 all in. Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev.
