I don’t understand why these firms expect you to never ask questions, do all the work on own, no technical assistance and at an extremely fast pace. If I’m able to complete all the work at a fast pace without any help and am expected to just self teach myself everything, what is the difference between my title and a director?

A director doesn't do work. A director makes sure you do work, reviews problematic results, and sells new work, and keep the partner and client happy.

What level are you GT1?

I've started to think the something similar. I have clients where the partner does nothing but provide a quick sign of at the end. Everything, and I do mean everything, else is handled by me. If I can do or manage all of the work up to sign off, with no needed changes. Why not go out on my own and get more of the economic reward.

Essentially the more you progress, the more the firm wants you to act like an owner, but won't pay you like one until you hit partner.

Maybe I am not doing it right but my door is always wide open for questions and learning. I continue to work with even brand new staff, if needed.

I do the same. But unless they’re a first year staff, I expect them to have a certain baseline or made an attempt at understanding the subject matter.

I also expect that they tried a senior or manager first depending on their level.

Sounds like you are at the wrong firm.

Forgot to mention the best part. And companies want you back in the office so you. An pay for commute spend time in your car and you still get no help.

You can ask questions but you should only do so after exhausting all of the resources you have available (e.g. do your research before you ask anything). You should always be teaching yourself everyday and your manager/director/partner is a sounding board to make sure you're on the right path. If you screw it majority, they sull take the blame if they sign off on it.

The difference is $$$$$

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some clarification. This may be obvious and I might not need to ask, but what is the difference between senior managers and managers? Apart from seniority.
