Sounds tempting, lots of factors involved. Buying a farm is quite different than buying a holiday home. Purchase as well as managing it (farming) can be difficult, especially if you are not local.
Since you mentioned Mumbai and Lonavala, please note that in Maharashtra, (and I think in almost all other states), you can buy a farm only if- 1. You own agricultural land somewhere in India 2. Your parents/ any of your grand parents were farmers.
Farming sounds like a lucrative option, but comes with one too many difficulties. Income is not stable as multiple variables are involved, and many times, you have to be satisfied if you earn enough to get your initial investment back. (I come from a farmer family, seen it up close).
It is easier in case you have a background, of course.
Correction, think its called a7/12 document
Dont know about farming but living in a house in suburban town sounds more fun than spending 80-90 lacs for the joke that is called a 3bhk
True.. I guess this is one of the stronger influencing factors. I was also looking for 2/3 bhks and the options sicken me. I feel like.. dude, why would anyone pay 1.5 Cr for this pigeonhole. Being a consultant, focused on solutions and not on problems, I start to think how can i earn 1.5 Cr quickly, and the answer is.. Work outside India. In which case, why would I buy a house in India? It's a convoluted chicken-egg problem.
I'm yet to find a 730+ sqft 2bhk in mainland Mumbai for less than 1.5 Cr.
My dad did just that. He bought a piece of farm land 10 years ago with the sole purpose of retiring and building a farmhouse there. He now spends 4-5 days of the week in the farmhouse and looks after the farm. He is the happiest I've ever seen him even though the farm doesn't generate nearly the same revenue of his previous businesses.
Yeah initial crops are always low quality. It's a very capital intensive business that's for sure.
I would agree with your thoughts.
Even I feel the same. I hope all the companies just shift to WFH so that all have a greater flexibility to live and work as per their convenience.
Any day, I would want to stay away from the main city
I guess we're on the same frequency.. You may like to binge on "Permaculture" videos on youtube. There's even an excellent MOOC from Oregon state university, one of the most visually appealing MOOCs I've seen. Try these out sometime.
Don’t buy land at a place where you don’t have connects. You will get screwed
Nothing is stable and/or perfect
Your argument is based on the assumption that work from model is going to continue indefinitely. Whether it would be for few days a week or more, you are saying work from home model is here to say. What about the possibility that the world reverts to normal lifestyle post 2021 ? After the vaccine is out, I I'm not saying everything will be normal instantly but don't you think eventually things will be back to normal ?
Alas, very valid.
But a counterpoint. Then employers will discover that productivity has gone down because people have started traveling 2-3 hrs again daily. So some fwd thinking companies may actually accept 50%+ wfh expecting higher productivity. At a point this could become an incredible option for young couples trying to raise a family and youll start seeing wfh model as a parameter in job sites maybe. By this time it has already become a reality. Speculating.
For a parallel, I used to work with a UK manager a few yrs back, who had negotiated a working arrangement with their boss like so: weekly off on Wednesday, Wfh on Thursday and an extra 2 hour of work on Monday, Tuesday, Friday to compensate for the W weekly off. So, effectively, 3 days of extended office, 1 day wfh, 3 days leave. She had done it to navigate a challenging personal situation, but what if this could be normal?
Sounds like something i wanna do🍻
Are we sure that WFH model will remain in effect for a long term post covid for consultants?
Love the idea...if this what all folks are going to do...the development will be distributed across the country. The villages won't remain villages, the cities won't remain cities anymore.
