It depends on experience. If someone has spent a good chunk of time honing in on their presentation and public speaking skills, then of course they’re more ready to be client facing and can be trusted to present work in a way that represents the agency.
I think the bigger issue is that we have a lack of mentorship for juniors right now, as senior creatives and ACDs are often stretched very thin. Instead of taking the time to teach new creatives, some people think it’s much faster and a quicker sell to just do it for them if you’re already overseeing. I guess it solves one problem, but creates an entirely different long term issue. It’s to the point where it’s ridiculous, I’ve seen ACDs take over a social presentations or banners to show clients. These are very low stakes places where juniors should be allowed to present regardless of whether or not they mess up. You can’t learn if you aren’t allowed to try.
are there still juniors though?
No need according to C suite anymore. This industry is about to bottleneck in senior Q&A creative who watch AI outputs. Until they eventually replace us too.
Never did. At some places I didn't as a senior even. Heck, I'm an acd and I present to some clients and never even see others.
They want the super senior to present to clients, I think it's fear.
Shocking. So you’re saying that in this hyper-competitive era of advertising we’re breeding a culture of self-preservation at the expense of the success of the generation intended to replace us?
Crazy.

Oh shit
Think it depends on how charismatic they are. I’ve seen an occasional junior present bc they’re extremely confident. The ones that are still really nervous or awkward, not so much.
Rising Star
anymore? 🤔
In our agency whoever is the better presenter in the team presents. Whether that’s the junior, senior, ACD or CD lol.
Fwiw ive never seen juniors present to clients in my career, aside from very very small projects, and even that was rare. Acd and up, and even then some times CDs don’t even present, and it’s ecd and up only.
Yeah, same. Started presenting as a junior, to the point where I ended up being the one upselling services because I was better at it than the CD, ECD and account people that were technically over me on a major consumer brand.
So I think it's good to let juniors give it a go if it seems like they can pull it off or, at the very least, not screw the client relationship up. Some clients appreciate it or could be open if you give them a heads up. I've never seen it result in anything especially terrible.
If they’re good, they do.
