That's ridiculous. Think of it this way, if it damages or breaks the friendship, you filtered out a crappy friend and got paid for it. Win win.

Exactly. My friend who broke me into a new industry got a VERY nice steak dinner. I didn't expect or could imagine asking for the referral bonus he got for putting his name and reputation on the line for me.

Ask for half of his salary for half of your bonus. The only reason he got the salary for the position is for the referral you gave him.
No don't pay him a dime, is he out of his mind? If it was not for you referring him, he would not be employed. He should be grateful, instead of asking half of the referral fee. If he goes by that principle, then he should pay you half of his salary.
Once the federal government tax your bonus that $2000 will disappear quickly. I wouldn't give him not one red cent. Your so-called friend's husband should be thankful he has a job.
He is ungrateful, don't give him anything. Nowadays getting even an interview is impossible yet alone a job. It's your money and if you ask me, 2k is very less he should buy you a gift as well.

That dude doesn't seem to care that you got him a job because he IS being GREEDY and UNGRATEFUL.
He is showing his true self and sad you added someone like that to the team. He didn't even seem to understand that he could do the same getting a bonus by working hard to get such an honor to bring a freind on to the team. Unless he has no friends.
Please keep your money to yourself. You deserve it. You owe him NOTHING! You gave him a job. He needs to be greatful not just for you getting him a job but that he has a wife who has a friend that help him out to do so.
His attitude will not get him ahead of he has the mindset that he is owed something. He will destroy himself with that mindset.
You just keep your money because it's YOURS. Leave that ungrateful man alone. And sorry if your friend doesn't understand that. If she doesn't, unfortunately she was never a friend.

When my friend recommended I work at his place of employment, I gave his name and we both got a $2000( Less after taxes) bonus after I stayed 3 months.
