No salary is worth the burn out unless you are scraping to get by. I would be leaving unless they can guarantee a reduction in workload.
I wouldn't quit outright. I would leave as soon as I found something that paid better though. 5% is paltry for the amount of stress it's causing you.
Where is your new rate relative to the role, industry, and location? Any change to bonus, etc., on top of the change you mention?
There’s a lot more than TC in the calculus here and your mental health is a big part. In your case it might make sense to start looking but the stress might also be the nature of the role. My old Sr. Director left our organization once he realized how much more responsibility really came with his promotion. The Sr. Dir he replaced really made it look effortless. Probably why she was promoted to VP.
My last promotion came with a crap raise (2%, yeah you read that right) but two other things were also true. I was already well above mid-point for the new level and my bonus multiplier went up quite a bit.
