Whats the easiest way to start your own tax return preparation practice (part time at first) then maybe full time if worth it? Which tax preparation software is best to use? Or is it better to start off at HR block or similar places to learn some of the ins and outs before going solo?

Have you worked at a small firm at all?

Either way do not work at HR block.

Drake is prob the best bang for your buck. There are a lot of threads about this topic on Reddit taxpros

I have. Caveat, my specialization is transfer pricing but its impossible to do that on the side independent of a major firm. Tax preparation seems to be easier to do on the side.

Guilt your friends and family into giving you money as your first set of “clients”

What if I screw up their tax returns. Do I get to charge them more for audit defense?

If you come from transfer pricing I would not recommend setting up shop in small client tax compliance. The data they send is a mess.

I’d recommend picking a Tax niche and diving deep into it. Be very honest with yourself about who your ideal clients are and let the book grow over time. You’ll be able to spend much less time keeping up with regulation changes and develop a brand that stands for something if you run a boutique firm.

There are all types. Check out the Thriveal podcast. Jason Blumer talks about niche firms quite a bit. They exist for dentist offices, content creators, hair salons, franchised restaurants, etc. Could be anything you want it to be. Key is to find a niche that you’d be interested in developing a deep knowledge of.

Dubai people I live in Marquise Square tower and my neighbor is having a party literally every day till 4-5 in the morning- I spoke to him and he apologized and promised to keep it quiet but he didn’t. So I spoke to the security if they can tell them to calm down and the security said that he can’t do anything as it’s the weekend! Is that normal or should they give me a noise compliance and force him to stay quiet after some time.

What was your experience with the LSAT? Do you think it's gatekeeping, preventing students who can't afford it (often people of color) from entering the field? OR is it helping future attorney's of color by giving them a chance to go to a top school regardless of grades? I've seen questions about the LSAT all day and just want to know how people feel.

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?

How long does it take for PwC to send out rejection email? I interviewed with the team like a month ago, the recruiter called me the next day and told me that congrats, everyone likes me and told that they were working on my official offer. 3 weeks later, nothing. I followed up 3 times already and got the answer that I should expect to hear by the end of the week. My last follow up email, no response lol. Should I just move on now?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
