You could get hired back as freelance, it’s really a non-issue, they give you a company email when you come back and that’s that. The issue is understanding that layoffs usually happen when there’s not enough billable work so if you were laid off, freelance roles are currently unlikely to be available right now. In fact when layoffs are happening, freelance freezes tend to be put into effect in tandem. Not always but often.
^this, have been through 2 major layoffs at network agencies and freelancers were always the first to be cut. And then they might have cut too many FT people so need people freelance to make work as there’s nobody left
Freelance D5 is correct. Lately though, I’ve seen a couple agencies layoff and then immediately hire to replace those fulltime roles at $20-$30K less than what the recently released employees were earning.
Could happen. I’ve seen people be hired back as freelancers after getting let go.
I’ve also seen people be let go, then be considered for freelance, but ultimately not chosen because “it would confuse the clients” to have creatives leave and then come back like that.
"No three-syllable words! You'll confuse the client!"

You were laid off not for performance, but for budget purposes. If you hold no bad blood with the place and they offer you freelance, why not take it? It's money.
It happens, we had layoffs a few weeks ago and some of the people who got the cut are already back freelance. Good luck!
It’s unusual because there’s usually bad blood and CDs want fresh people to confuse and frustrate.
