Whenever i have a big deadline, my body goes into a panic mode where my energy immediately goes to figuring out how I’ll get something done well and on time. Outwardly, I don’t seem stressed so no one notices but actually I usually feel like I have a cold: fatigue, headache, sore throat, sinus infection. When a task is done, i stop feeling like crap. It’s been like this since law school. Any tips on managing stress or moving towards doing good work without my body shutting down lol?

That doesnt sound like a great way to live. Do you like what you do? Thought about taking a different career path?

What works for me is exercise, eating healthy, and meditation, which i assume you’ve heard before..

Planning ahead works and internal deadline is a great idea. Its better to be aggressive in designing a strategy to reach to a solution way ahead.

I always have my first designs done in prototype phase or first half of the time given, and after looking at first draft I perfect it. Time taken to build 85% of solution = time taken to build the last 15% of solution (Tweeks , optimization, better designs , cleaning code, feedback etc ). Most of the time internal deadline ends up being half the time of the actual deadline.

Also to reduce the anxiety, I prefer to work with another member to solve a problem rather than breaking my own head . Peer programming works best as well always.

I would suggest chatting with a therapist.

My darling daughter had an anxiety disorder. When she was in school she failed timed tests and any project with deadlines.

I worked with the school system on an IEP. Basically she did not have any timed tests or deadlines. Without a deadline, her anxiety was not triggered. And she was able to get her assignments quickly completed.

As an adult, she uses marijuana and has a therapist. She only saw her therapist once this year to check in.

One of her tactics to deal with anxiety as an adult… she lies to herself. She tells herself that there is not a deadline. She just has a priority to work on.

Say I had a “friend” who gained 15 Covid lbs but is still on dating apps with old pics. Is that considered catfishing? She’s not overweight, but not fit anymore. Still good looking...she suspects. Hi,

Just started a new job less than a month ago in the tech sector. It was the industry I was fixated on when leaving for. However I realise that I don't think I can cope with the fast paced, lack of wlb, with no support - it's really impacting my mental health already....

I try to hide it from my boyfriend, but its impact is flowing into my personal life.
I feel like a failure, but recognise it might be beneficial to cut loss and quit. Has anyone been in this situation?

Any advice?

Hey guys,
I’m currently a quality control analyst in the biopharma/gene therapy field making 72k base in the Houston area. I’ve been working here for 2 years and my company is well established and the job is easy, but I honestly just want higher pay. I see companies (smaller and larger) that potentially can give me that but would it be worth it? I’m having a hard time finding out what opportunities/paths I can take and what amount of $ would be worth moving jobs for. Any insight is appreciated!

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
