I got promoted this year, but the raise felt underwhelming compared to the workload spike. Title change, more pressure, same laptop. Is this just how it goes in consulting, or did I mess up my negotiation?

Promotion is 7.5%. The real pay increase is when you leave consulting

Not in the current job market… unless you exit to PE ops or something

Been there. The promotion felt like a reward until I realized I was doing way more with barely any increase in pay. You definitely did not mess up, this just happens way too often in consulting.

like

You didn’t mess up.

A large majority of people at bigger firms are operating at the next level for 12 months before they get the promotion.

Sounds like you had it easy.

Depends on your level. Yes in generally when you first get promoted - especially starting at manager, you'll feel like you're doing double duty. It only gets worse as you move up.

like

That seems light for a promotion year, but obviously we know little about your situation. I think when I have calculated a comp CAGR it has averaged more than that over the course of my career. I wouldn’t get overly worried about one year, but I would think about potential long term options and shift if there were perpetually low raises. I guess may also depend on what type of consulting you do.

Sorry - the light reference was to the 7.5 someone noted as a promo %.

Hey folks - I have an inquiry on my credit for a gym membership I “failed to cancel”. I had previously left this gym as it closed during pandemic, and shifted to a new location. In doing so, I informed the gym I would be leaving. However, I recently checked my credit and saw that my membership had not been cancelled and had been sent to collections (prompting an inquiry and dropping my score).

Has anyone experienced this, and is aware of next steps to take here?

Location: London
Offering - £65K
Role: Senior Product Designer
Organization: mid-sized in software development
My YOE: 2.5 years after bachelors then 2 years Masters in London

I would really appreciate your views! Thank you :)
