ugh that waiting period just drags, especially when you thought you were a strong match! happened to me before with an internal posting where I didn’t even get feedback, just that same generic rejection email. lowkey started doubting if my resume even got looked at or if it was just the ATS tossing me before a manager ever saw it.
if you still have the job description, try scanning your resume against it with something like Resume Worded, ResumeJudge, or Jobscan. it really shocked me how much impact missing a couple keywords actually makes – ATS bots are so picky. sometimes the system basically screens out internal applicants just as ruthlessly as external ones, it sucks.
are you thinking of applying again if the job reopens? I started keeping every version of my resumes tailored for each posting, so I don’t get caught off guard if something similar comes up. did you ever get actual feedback, or only the auto-email? not a lot of folks talk about how cold internal rejections are, lol.
Beware job scan is a paid service. I do believe you get some “free” uploads. I use the service for well over six months entered in resumes that were in the 90s grade wise and still did not even get into a interview. The process that I’ve been doing since then is much more fruitful without paying anyone.
Ethan, many times if a job is reposted under the same rec number you cannot reapply.
Curious have you tried reaching out to a colleague you might know within the recruitment team to find the one over that req or the hiring manager to work towards a conversation? I know NG is a large organization but a little discovery work might land you with the right person or someone that could get you there.
It’s highly disappointing with internal ATS work against employees that are more than qualified and interested in a position and want to stay at the company.
You're already an NG employee? I understand not feeling 100% comfie talking with your manager about your career desires, but I would encourage you to talk with your manager or with another manager within NG abiut your career desires. Poking around online for internal positions can be exhausting and it puts you into their HRIS which is.... frankly not good.
NG overall is pretty old school, and the best way to find new positions is to talk to folks.
Unfortunately, that's not how people in the labor market feel nowadays. So it can feel rather unnerving to put that much trust in someone. I spoke quite often with my managers and other managers throughout my career at NG. And I've had peers and my own employees do this as well. Sometimes it didn't work out and they had to leave the company for that next opportunity.
Unfortunately, the HRIS is the enemy, and the only waybaroundnit is to make sure the managers are aware of you before the system has a chance to spit you out.
I am a current NG employee, and my career desires has come up a couple times with my direct manager. There is only so much he can help out with.
The biggest issue that I am seeing is that there are not very many openings in my area for roles I would be qualified for. And right now I am not able to relocate to a different part of the country.
I've had the same experience and the hiring process at NG is abysmal. I applied to 40+ positions when I was outside and came onto a position that is not a match to my resume at all. I figured screw it, I can move around after 6 months and I'm still in the same position 3 years later. Good company but, HR AND hiring managers need to get off their asses.
I would reach out to the recruiter for an explanation. You should have at least received an invite for an interview.
I used to work for NG for 4 years, was cleared for classified areas and work and I to applied for positions and they went with external candidates over me when I already was cleared and doing the work so no training. Sometimes things don't make since.

I hear that. Same w/me. Both, I other referred others and applied to roles that were potentially good fits. Even to internal candidates, the reply is cold. We're only resources; human is printed on the floor mat.
Northrup Grumman system also identified me as a 'strong match' so I applied to a second position. I just did my weekly check on my application. I have been 'under consideration' for several weeks now and not had any communication from them. I received 'does not meet the minimum requirements' within 72 hours for the position I had originally applied to.
Plenty of other companies are doing this as well. Sometimes it is just an HR person who hasn’t taken the position down, even though it’s filled. Sometimes when that happens, the job just reposts and reposts and reposts.
When you apply for any Northrop jobs, make sure to tailor your resume for the job you are apply and include buzz words that are included in the job description.
